Introduction

The health care sector is a crucial part this time, due to the pandemic that hits the whole world badly. The systems were not really in a good condition especially in India compare to other parts of the world.

When the budget 2021 presented on Feb 1, 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the country’s health care would get doubled up to around 2,23,846 crore. She also added, “the coronavirus period gives rise to a new era with new hopes.”

Important Announcements in Health care

  • Out of the doubled allocation in this sector that is 2,23,846 cr. a total of around 35,000 cr. would help in getting COVID-19 vaccines available.
  • She also added spending on health care sector has a massive increase of 137%, which means nearly 64,180 crores will be used in new national health program – ATMNIRBHAR SWASTH BHARAT YOJANAthat will improve the health care system giving chances of increase in GDP, up to 2.5%-3% in coming 6 years up to 2025, that mainly focus on developing primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare of the country.
  • She also drops hints about new corona vaccines arriving soon, which not only benefitted the public healthcare, but also the economy, by improving the facilities in a better way.
  • The PM’s Atmnirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana runs parallel to the National Health Mission.
  • Good news for the urban and rural health centers. Around 17,000 rural and 11,000 urban health and welfare centers will set up. In districts alongside 3,382 block public health units in states.
  • The government will launch Mission Poshan 2.0,  thereby improving the nutritional fronts of the country.
  • Setting up bio-safety laboratories and hospitals locally.
  • Under the increasing allocation of the PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) scheme for 10 sectors. More capital investment happens in the healthcare sector, as a part of Atmnirbhar Bharat.
